and around the city, as well as greater Gauteng.
Centurion Property
Irene – Wierda Park – Lytelton – Hennopspark
– Eldoraigne
Strategically situated between Johannesburg and Pretoria,
Centurion’s main access routes link it to all the major
centres in Gauteng.
Traffic congestion aside, ideal area to live if you work in
Johannesburg and socialise in Pretoria. Convenient ‘lock-up
and go’ townhouse developments in the newer areas with
stand-alone houses in the older, more established areas. Interestingly
more than one in ten Centurion households operate businesses
from their homes.
Centurion Mall and various other retail developments offer
a wide variety of shops & restaurants with the popular
centurion cricket stadium regularly hosting international
test and one-day matches.
Midrand Property
Halfway Gardens – Kayalami – Midrand – Vorna
Valley – Noordwyk
Situated halfway between Johannesburg and Pretoria, it is
approximately half an hour’s drive from both centres.
One of South Africa’s fastest growing areas, Midrand
is slowly creeping towards the southern perimeter of Pretoria.
Midrand plays host to one of Africa’s largest conference
venues, Gallagher Estate, and boasts an array of self contained
business parks. Residential areas consist mainly of walled
security estate/complex living.
Northern Suburbs of Johannesburg
Affluent and packed with shops and restaurants, the northern
suburbs seem a world apart from the CBD and its surrounds.
The northern suburbs stretch over 30 km from Parktown, beyond
the N1 highway and into the Midrand area.
North of N1 – Fourways Property
Fourways – Paulshof – Sunninghill – Lonehill
– Northriding – Dainfern
North of Sandton the suburbs continue for +- 20 km. Here you
will find large domestic plots combined with shopping centres,
country clubs and the increasingly popular upmarket cluster
houses in walled security estates. This area has shown a huge
property boom in the last couple of years.
Fourways Mall, Fourways Crossing and the popular Montecasino
offers a variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment.
Traffic and access roads prove to be a problem in this area,
but a major upgrade to the main arteries feeding this area
is currently underway.
Below N1 - Sandton Property
Bryanston – Morningside – Rivonia – Woodmead
– Sandown – Illovo – Hyde Park
Sandton is the typical northern suburb. A sophisticated, upmarket
suburb, which houses most major financial institutions. It
has become the retreat of choice for banks and large corporations,
including the Johannesburg Securities Exchange, and is known
as the financial hub of Africa.
It’s plush shopping centres, like Sandton City and Sandton
Square and abundance of lavish homes makes it the premier
Johannesburg suburb.
Suburbs Below N1 (excl Sandton)
Rosebank – Greenside – Houghton – Norwood
– Westcliff – Parkhurst – Parktown
With the exception of Alexandra, these are prosperous areas
with plush shopping malls and well-tendered parks as public
meeting points. Most suburbs are close to major arterial roads
and some of our countries best schools are situated here.
Most streets are lined with high walls and security gates,
but places of interest do exist, such as the centres of the
suburbs of Rosebank and Parkhurst.
Parkhurst is one of Johannesburg’s oldest residential
suburbs and is one of the few places in the Northern suburbs
where there’s an element of street life. These suburbs
with their eclectic mix of shops, pavement cafes and continental
feel have proved to be highly attractive and property is steadily
being bought up here.
The Northern suburb of Houghton is one of Johannesburg’s
wealthiest and greenest suburbs, popular in the past and at
present with the city’s elite. Within this area also
lies one of Johannesburg’s most gracious suburbs namely,
Westcliff, with many historic Herbert Baker homes set in well
established gardens.
Johannesburg South
Alberton Property
Brackendowns – Brackenhurst – Meyersdal
Alberton is approximate 25 minutes drive from Johannesburg
International Airport and +- 15 km from Johannesburg.
A variety of shopping centres, clinics and schools are located
in the different suburbs and Alberton also houses the Newmarket
Race course.
Suburbs range from affordable properties to those catering
for the middle and upper income groups.
Johannesburg East
Benoni – Edenvale – Kempton Park
The East Rand is a combination of industrial activity and
the privacy and intimacy of small town living. The East
Rand boasts with a world-class casino, Emperors Palace,
with conferencing facilities and several international brand
hotels. It also hosts the Johannesburg International Airport.
It is a self-contained, diverse area, home to people of
various income groups.
North Eastern suburbs
Cyrildene – Observatory – Orange Grove –
Fairwood
Some of the oldest suburbs lie in the North East and has
large Jewish and Italian communities. Houses in these areas
often still have their old world charm with their wooden
floors and pressed ceilings.
Cyrildene has become home to a fascinating collection of
Chinese supermarkets, businesses and authentic restaurants.
Johannesburg West
Randburg Property
Blairgowrie – Ferndale – Fontainebleau
– Robindale – Randpark Ridge
Randburg contains 32 suburbs, most of them residential.
Randburg is well known for Cresta shopping centre and entertainment
areas like Brightwater Commons.
Residential areas cater for various income groups. Boomed
off residential areas is a common occurrence as a means
of security and adds to Randburg’s suburban feel.
Roodepoort Property
Allensnek – Florida – Ruimsig – Roodepoort
– Horizon View
The Roodepoort region offers pleasant suburbs, many with
superb views of the city to the East and the Magaliesburg
to the West. There are ample open spaces, golf courses and
commercial activity such as Westgate and Clearwater Mall.
Much like the East of Johannesburg, this area is self-contained,
offering a variety of schools, hospitals and shopping centres.
Situated far to the West of the city centre, traffic congestion,
despite the dual-carriage highways, can be problematic.
North Western suburbs
Auckland Park – Emmarentia – Linden –
Melville – Northcliff
Tree lined streets and wide-open spaces make this an appealing
area. Views from the higher suburbs like Northcliff, is
a vista of treetops, attractive housing and parks.
The suburbs range from low to high income and many have
a distinctive character. The most characteristic of this
area is its diversity. Suburbs range from upmarket Northcliff
and trendy Melville to Emmarentia and Linden as tranquil
central suburbs.
Johannesburg CBD Property
Hillbrow – Berea – Yeoville
Grouped around the CBD are various suburbs that, despite
their over population and sometimes illegal occupation by
migrants from all over the continent, have their moments
of architectural brilliance.
Successful efforts over the last couple years to clean up
the streets of the CBD, to make them safe and reopen some
of the neglected buildings are drawing businesses and tourists
back into the CBD.
